Addiction is a family disease. The entire familial system is often damaged when one of the family members enters addiction treatment. To heal the dysfunctional family system, the family must participate in the addiction treatment process. At NTS we have designed our family program to be a reoccurring family process group. This means that a family member(s) can attend our family program as often as they like while their loved one is in addiction treatment at NTS. In fact, we encourage family members to attend the family program as often as they can while their loved one is in addiction treatment.
If the family has a young child who has been effected by addiction, for example, the parent (mother or father) has a drug and/or alcohol problem, and they have a young child, then there have been some great children programs that have been developed recently that specifically deal with the young child's issues as they relate to their parent's addiction. One of the most prominent and well known children's program is the Betty Ford Center's Children's Program.
The Betty Ford Center's Children's Program is one of the most innovative of its many programs. No child is turned away because of money and they have campuses throughout the United States, with their primary children's facilities in Dallas and Rancho Mirage, California. If you or a loved one is suffering from addiction or alcoholism and a young child is involved, please contact the Betty Ford Children's Program for more information about their Children's Programs. At NTS we highly value the work that Betty Ford does with the families of addicts and alcoholics. In addition to our own family program, we often recommend that family members attend the Betty Ford intensive family program at some time.
