We know that Los Angeles probation is overwhelmed, but a recent incident involving Los Angeles Probation let me know exactly how overwhelmed and overworked they are. Los Angeles has many criminals to worry about and the overcrowding in LA jails is causing many more people than usual to be placed on probation, but is that any excuse for the probation department in LA to treat its probationers the way they are treated? Appearently, people on probation in LA County are treated with very little respect and berated to the point of tears, and these are probationers are ones who are doing well. I have worked with probation in many counties in California and they are generally pleasant, but the recent incident one of our clients had with LA probation was appalling. LA County probation must be suffering tremendously from the California budget constraints for them to act the way they acted. NTS works primarily with Orange County probation and the Orange County probation department has a good understanding of addiction treatment. LA County probation needs some obvious help and support. Once again the devastating effects of the economy in California are only begining to be felt by all of us. It will get worse.
