Substance abuse treatment has become a welcome alternative to the judicial system in Orange County, California. Probation approved substance abuse treatment facilities in Orange County are used by judges, lawyers, and court systems to divert non-violent drug offenders away from jail and into addiction treatment. With the development of Drug Court in Orange County, the O.C. judicial system found that by placing non-violent drug offenders in substance abuse treatment as opposed to sending them to jail decreased recidivism rates and actually promoted the rehabilitation and recovery of the non-violent drug offender.

Substance abuse treatment and drug treatment are essentially the same things. People who have a substance abuse problem can also be said to have a substance abuse problem. The treatment for drug abuse and substance abuse is the same. A person can be addicted to a number of substances or drugs. Today, many people are addicted to prescription medication, or pills. Obtaining pills like xanex or vicodin has become as easy and profitable as obtaining illegal drugs such as methamphetamine and marijuana. Often substance abusers will combine pills with other drugs for a synergistic or additive affect. When someone is admitted to substance abuse treatment at National Therapeutic Services, we always check to see what kind of substances/drugs the person has been taking because many of the prescription medications like xanex and vicodin can be dangerous to detox from. It is never advisable to try and quit prescription medications or pills "cold turkey" or without a proper detoxification regiment. At National Therapeutic Services we send clients who have benzodiasapine substance abuse problems immediately to detox so they can be properly weened off of the pills.

When a person begins substance abuse treatment at NTS they are initiated into a program that delicately, yet painstakingly, takes them through the beginning stages of recovery from drugs and alcohol. Clients at NTS Treatment Centers are given a thorough orientation to the NTS program. The NTS program involves 180 twelve step meetings in 90 days, 180 Group Sessions, and exercise sessions. Clients are also required to complete a Step Workbook within their first 30 Days of treatment no matter what program or phase they may enter in to. The Step Workbook takes clients through the first few steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Clients are also expected to obtain a sponsor within their first 30 Days of substance abuse treatment. Each client receives an individualized treatment plan. Some client's may receive privileges that other clients do not receive. We believe that each client deserves an individualized treatment plan with specific groups, lectures, and twelve step meetings that conform to their treatment needs. For example, if a client enters substance abuse treatment at NTS with a drug addiction and an eating disorder our clinical team will design a treatment schedule that includes eating disorder treatment, our clinicians who specialize in treating eating disorders will conduct a thorough clinical interview, and we may assign the client to to one hour of eating disorder therapy per week with one of out therapists who specializes in eating disorder treatment. We pride ourselves on providing clients with special needs an individualized treatment program schedule that is best suited to their recovery.

Substance Abuse Treatment is a general term used to delineate treatment for the addiction to any substance, including alcohol, but sometimes is used to refer to drugs only. In substance abuse treatment, people are taught the necessary skills and information needed to get sober and maintain their sobriety. Substance abuse treatment allows a person to live in a drug free environment, away from the psychological, environmental, and sociological triggers that may surround them in their living situation at home. It is possible for a person to get sober and stay sober without going to substance abuse treatment, but this is a rarity in today's world. Some people are able to go to AA or NA meetings by themselves, get a sponsor, and work through the 12 Steps of AA or NA, while living at home, but few people these days have the willingness to go to such great lengths by themselves to stay sober. One of the reasons substance abuse treatment facilities have become the norm for people who need to get sober is because of the extreme damage physically, psychologically, and sociologically that today's drugs can cause to a human being. It is no longer just a matter of sobering up and getting your life back together again, as it once was when people were taking less potent drugs and drinking alcohol only, but a matter of life and death. The chances of a person seriously causing physical and permanent psychological damage to themselves before they become willing enough to go to AA or NA on their own are slim these days. Often treatment interventions are needed to raise the "bottom" of the alcoholic and/or addict because their "bottom" might be death, permanent brain damage, or prison.
