Heroin Addiction Treatment
Northbound Treatment Services is intimately familiar with the devastation caused by heroin addiction. We have seen thousands of recovering addicts in our 20 years of heroin addiction treatment, and the slow, painful progression of the disease is heartbreaking. Addiction affects every aspect of a person’s life, driving away their loved ones, destroying their career, and compromising their self-esteem and sense of self-worth. The progression of the disease is incredibly painful to watch, and the sad reality is that the addict will give their life to their addiction if they are not able to get help.
Northbound offers our clients that help, which includes evidence-based recovery strategies that are proven to be effective in heroin addiction treatment. Our services provide our clients with more than just the means to get clean, but the ability to to life a happy, purposeful life. Our motto “recovery is more than just abstinence- it’s a lifestyle,” truly encompasses our philosophy of treatment, and we understand that there’s a lot more to staying clean than just staying clean. We give the addict the tools and resources they need to maintain their sobriety for a lifetime, and the means to thrive and excel without the burden of their addiction.
Foundation of our Heroin Addiction Treatment Program
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) explains that recovering from addiction should exemplify four main concepts:
Northbound has designed our heroin addiction treatment program based on this extensively researched model. Notice that this description goes beyond just providing treatment- it emphasizes the importance of reintegrating back into life and developing strong connections with our peers and loved ones. Once the cycle has been broken, recovery depends upon maintaining a fit psychological and spiritual condition, which includes healthy decision making, diet and exercise, and a strong sense of self.
Our clients generally begin their treatment with us at oneEIGHTY, Northbound’s medical detox facility. In addition to the mental aspect of heroin addiction, heroin is also physically addicting, and is usually accompanied by intense withdrawal symptoms upon stopping the drug. In order to alleviate these symptoms and make the detoxification process as comfortable as possible, oneEIGHTY offers our clients a team of medical professionals and 24 hour support. Medications are administered to curb the withdrawal, and treatment professionals offer encouragement, support, and guidance. Completing detox is a huge step towards recovery, and once clients have completed their detox they will transition into our residential heroin addiction treatment program.
In order to offer the highest level of care, Northbound only provides our clients with evidence-based treatment strategies that have been clinically proven to work. Transforming someone’s life is not based on guess work or strong opinions- it involves the utilization of tested, proven methods of treatment.
Therapy is one of the most strongly supported methods of treatment, which is backed by professional organizations like the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). NIDA strongly support cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which is showing itself to be the most successful means of producing chance in heroin addiction treatment. CBT focuses on treating the underlying thoughts and behaviors that perpetuate addiction, and teach the individual effective ways of managing heroin cravings and urges, as well as the actions they can take to avoid relapse.
It is important to recognize that their isn’t one generic therapy or course of treatment that is guaranteed to produce results. The extent of the addiction and its underlying causes differ from person to person, so there are some types of therapy that are extraordinarily helpful to one individual that may not be helpful to another. We understand the need to meet each client where they’re at, which is why we tailors a specific treatment program for each client based on their individual needs. Although most of these programs involve some core methods of heroin addiction treatment, each client is provided with additional services and treatment options based on their specific situation. This combination of clinically proven treatment and additional customized services offer our clients the best chance of long term sobriety and continued growth.
Long Term Support
Because recovery from heroin addiction is a lifelong process, Northbound provides our clients with multiple aftercare and long term support systems. Our residential treatment model is designed to slowly transition our clients through a carefully constructed phase system, which reduces the chance of relapse and offers client support along each step of their journey. Our program is so successful that our average client chooses to stay with us for 4-6 months, which is above and beyond the length of residential treatment. Residential treatment is a safe place, but leaving treatment to go back to a career, family, or education can come with a host of challenges, which we address in our aftercare programs
In order to prevent the stress of everyday life from driving our clients back to their drug of choice, Northbound provides aftercare services that include Collegebound and Careerbound, programs designed to allow our clients to return to their education or career while still receiving the benefit of residential treatment. This slow transition greatly reduces the chance of relapse, and allows our clients to move forward with their lives while still receiving support and guidance from a professional treatment team.
