Suboxone Treatment Center Orange County
Suboxone is a semi-synthetic opiate with only partial agonist and antagonist properties, which was officially approved by the FDA in 2002 to be used for the treatment of opioid addiction. Since then, Suboxone has been commonly used to treat heroin addiction.
Suboxone has been used by addicts as a recreational drug. At NTS we do test our clients, not prescribed Suboxone, for Suboxone abuse. Suboxone can cause similar euphoric effects as other opiates so it is considered a dangerous drug for people prone to addiction to be prescribed.
Prescribing Suboxone and other drugs such as methadone to treat substance abuse is considered a “harm reduction” approach. It is far from a cure for opioid dependence and is highly monitored in addiction treatment settings.
NTS addiction treatment center does allow clients to enter treatment on Suboxone, but it is highly suggested that client’s titrate down on this medication while they are with us.
As mentioned, Suboxone is akin to prescribing methadone in treatment. For some it may be indicated, but in an addiction treatment setting the focus is on abstinence and working toward the goal of discontinuing Suboxone.
Suboxone treatment will help with a heroin addict’s withdrawal symptoms, but there are withdrawal symptoms related to Suboxone withdrawal as well. Suboxone simply delays the inevitable withdrawal effects of opiates that all opiate addicts will have to go through. The best that can be expected is that Suboxone will lessen the pain associated with withdrawal from stronger opioids.
