Experiential activities are an important component of the full continuum of care offered at Northbound, and through these activities we promote addressing goals, mental health treatment, dual diagnosis treatment and general substance abuse treatment. Some of the many beneficial therapeutic activities offered at Northbound include:

  • Trips to Catalina Island
  • Surfing lessons
  • Boxing
  • Skiing and snowboarding trips to Big Bear and Mammoth
  • Whale watching
  • Hiking
  • Snorkeling
  • Beach excursions
  • Yoga
  • Rock climbing

These activities are designed to help complement each individual client’s treatment plan as well as help them achieve goals set through those plans. While these activities can provide a patient with a beautiful, therapeutic environmental backdrop as well as a strong sense of spirituality, these activities can also promote achievement in the following areas:

  • Self-esteem
  • Self-confidence
  • Social anxiety
  • Social inequities
  • Coping skills
  • Emotional management

Because we value the importance of therapeutic activities such as these, we ensure that all of our clients can have the opportunity to participate in as many of them as possible. While some activities require a fee, many of them are included with the program. For those clients who require additional monetary assistance to participate in these activities, Northbound provides financing options that can be utilized when it will positively benefit the patient.

At Northbound, we believe in working on all the aspects of a client’s recovery to help them cope with life without the use of drugs or alcohol. Experiential activities such as these can quickly become a major part of a client’s recovery all while working towards the development of their sobriety.
