Behavioral Health Treatment in Orange County, California
Overcoming addiction and mental health challenges is a complex process. There is not a simple solution or “cure.” Northbound provides behavioral health treatment in Orange County, California, to help clients develop the skills they need to be more confident and successful in their recovery. Addiction, a chronic disease, causes significant changes in the brain. Through diverse evidence-based therapeutic techniques, highly individualized programming, and our innovative In Vivo® model of care, clients learn how to change their thought patterns, behaviors and routines to create a thriving lifestyle of strengthened relationships, greater goal identification and achievement, enhanced self-efficacy and self-esteem, emotional and psychological balance, and sustained recovery.
Behavioral health treatment at Northbound occurs in the form of residential treatment (including detox where indicated), outpatient programs, support services, and ongoing alumni engagement. Clients build trust and confidence in themselves and those around them, fostering a more positive outlook, decreasing maladaptive behaviors, and implementing the skills and strategies necessary for a continued, flourishing recovery.
Process Addiction Treatment
Process addictions, or compulsions that center around behaviors such as work, sex, gambling, food, Internet, and more, are identified and addressed throughout the treatment process. To address these damaging behavioral compulsions, Northbound programs assist clients in identifying the roots of their addiction, so that a new form of addiction does not simply replace an older form (such as a newly recovering alcoholic developing a gambling addiction). Therapist-lead process groups and individual work focus on family of origin dynamics, psychological issues, trauma, and other topics that can lead to the development of process addiction if left unaddressed. Educational lectures ensure that all clients learn about the sneaky nature of addiction and its ability to assume many different forms. Clients are supported in looking honestly at all the manifestations of addictive tendencies in their lives and are empowered to develop a comprehensive recovery lifestyle.
Evidence-Based Therapies at Northbound
Given the complex nature of addiction and mental health disorders, Northbound implements a variety of evidence-based therapies and modalities in the treatment process. These approaches have been highly researched and shown to be effective in treating many people. Responses to different therapeutic approaches vary. Having a large toolbox to draw from enhances our ability to meet each client where they are and serve them in a way that will be most impactful and effective as they develop their recovery.
Evidenced-based therapies at Northbound include (but are not limited to) cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), experiential techniques, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). The choice of modality is based upon the client’s unique needs, preferences, and predispositions. No one modality has been shown to be universally effective. At Northbound, clinicians take the time to develop strong rapport with their clients and implement therapeutic techniques best suited to meet that individual’s needs. To ensure quality treatment is provided that truly addresses the multifaceted issues present for the individual, every client undergoes a biopsychosocial assessment. This assessment clarifies in-depth the physical, mental, and social manifestations of addiction and mental health issues in the individual’s life, as well as providing valuable insights into ideal treatment planning and therapeutic approaches.
